Bike came with the flat trim ring on the headlight, and I prefer the visor style. Picked one up cheaply the other day at a swap meet, and changed them out.
The flat trim ring would fit and close the gap at the bottom as long as I mounted it carefully. But the visor one wouldn't. Went back and forth with them just to check, and yes, I could see the difference.
Finally pulled the headlight ring off, and played with the visors by hand just to check. And sure enough, the visored one is just a little shorter around than the flat faced one is. So, the visor trim ring will leave a gap, while the flat trim ring can be mounted without leaving a gap.
I have no idea why they made them differently. Can't imagine anyone actually wanting the gap there at the bottom.
Some other time, I'll play with not using the stock trim ring to mount the extended trim ring on.
