Problem solved. I am going to remove the temp gauge and install the HD compass.
Are you paying for the compass? Of course you are. NOW you know why H-D puts something worthless in the hole--so they can sell you an "upgrade" like oil temp, compass, etc to go there. And the dealer loves it since percentage-wise they make more $$ on accessories than the bike itself. And if you have them install it, there's the labor charge...
I donot know why but mine is perfect going down the road and who cares about oil temp. What are you going to do if it gets high?Stop and let it cool off!
When it is 30 outside my gauge says 50. That's riding weather.... I like the gauge.
When it is 80 outside my gauge says 100. That's drinking weather.... I like the gauge.
I use it all the time......
Mike....
Down here in Texas drinking temp is in direct correlation to how bad of a week I've had.
When I read the gauge i ask the wife "Can I ride today" Her answer depends on if it is a drinkn' day or a ridn' day. BUT I do think the MOCO ought to fix this POS.
why should the MOCO spend money to fix an air temp gauge that hasn't worked right for at least 6 years now.
When they know a lot of you will spend more money with them buying the oil temp gauge?
And maybe even more money having it installed by the dealer?
Just more money in their pocket
but just my .02
Could be that I'm wrong, but thought the air temp sensor was afixed to backside of AC backing plate (on stock AC's). I'm waiting for sevice manual and parts manual to verify. If that is true, then the air guage (agree not worth much) is reading the ambient air temp at the throttle body.??..

The sensor is inside the fairing. I moved mine outside and it now is pretty accurate.
