Another Fuel Odor Thread
My bike has been parked in the garage since last Sunday and the raw fuel smell is still coming out of the vent. The tank is full but not to the bottom of the filler hole piece. Yes, there's 5oz of Seafoam in there which may have an affect on the smell.
I taped off the bottom of the vent hose to experiment and the odor escaping has ceased.
The gas caps on our bikes are "vented", right? If so, what's the purpose of this additional vent hose? I'm sure it's there for a reason but right now, I'm afraid to light a cigar in my garage......

typically fuel coming out of the filling station pump is cooler, having been underground.
It may expand in the tank...leading to the "full" tank to be overfill and dump on the ground. you may have seen this in parking lots. and that is why the pump says "do not top off".
if your case you are likely smelling some of the lighter fuel additives, which often evaporate first- and maybe the stuff you dumped in the tank
CA bikes and modern cars have charcoal canisters to absorb these fumes- which are then burned when the motor starts.
crack your garage door. gas fumes are heavier than air.

Right you are on the vent process..... had my garage door open for for a period of time over the last several days....Odor was still coming out....Not now, since I taped it up!!!
