Floorboard Gun Storage
I found this thread looking for a viable solution to securing my pistol when at work.
I work at a Hospital and have had my life threatened by drug addicts and mental cases more than once. Plus the location is not the best neighborhood.
The state law has recently changed to where we can carry firearms onto the parking lot but not into the building.
I would not transport my pistol there but it is a thought for securing it while at work. Then putting it back where it belongs (on my waistband) for the ride home.
I did find a better solution which is a safe for inside your saddlebag that locks you pistol/valuables and also locks the saddlebag onto the frame of the bike.
And $130 cheaper.
Here in Cali, if you're caught doing this (carrying a loaded weapon concealed without a permit), you can be charged with a felony. If nothing else, the possibility is great you'll end up explaining to a judge why you felt the need to carry a loaded gun illegally. The arrest becomes part of your permanent criminal record, as does the outcome (acquittal, conviction: dismissal/misdemeanor/felony). If you're arrested in the future, or investigated for a given job, this incident and its outcome will be there for investigators to evaluate...
If you want to carry concealed, my advice is to get a CCW. Then, carry the weapon on your person, out of sight, where you can access it without muss/fuss. If you can't get a CCW, join an organization that advocates for such, and support them in an effort to get the law changed. Meanwhile, know the law, and stay within it when you travel from one place to another with firearms.
Personally, I'd stay well away from the boundaries of the law, i.e., not do anything that's even questionable. A certain amount of the decision of a LEO whether to arrest, or not, is discretion. And then, beyond that, the DA has discretion whether to prosecute, or not. As for skirting the edges of the law--I would not want to put myself into a position where the mere opinions of others could subject me to a legal prosecution and all its attendant hassle. But then, I'm a 'chicken' in such regards, and a cynic (I believe the cards are stacked against us, if we perform this type of 'sketchy' (under the law) act.)
As for the floorboards, I like the ones with the 'blades' that fold out into highway pegs. It makes more sense to me to use this space on the bike (the underside of the footboards) for something practical.
