I love the new infotainment system. The only issue I have experienced has been the automatic sound volume control.
The vast majority of 2014 twin cooled bike owners would recommend buying a 2014. Most of those that recommend waiting don't own one. Take a test ride and decide. The new bike is that much better. Can't wait for spring.
I traded in a 07 SE Ultra on a new 14 Limited. A much better and more enjoyable bike. The primary reason I traded early into the 14 rollout was my concern over older bike trade value. I am seeing a big uptick in used touring bike trade-ins. That will result in lower values. The most important thing to me was the price difference. If my trade had lost a couple grand more in value it would have really hurt. The only thing that mattered to me was the difference I would need to pay. Waiting would require a bigger check, waiting till 2015 would have been a much bigger check. Even if they make a few updates I Just love my 14. You need to ride one to understand. IMHO
I seriously doubt the value of your 2007 changes much because of the 2014's. It was already 'obsolete' by the 2009-2013's. I traded in my 96 Evo RK last year and got what I felt was a GREAT value for it. Only about 4 grand less than I paid ~10 years previously for it. While I certainly enjoy the benefits of a newer bike now the amount of enjoyment I get from it comes from the people I ride with and the rides themselves. That being said you don't need any excuse to buy a new bike so that's not for me to judge anyone on..
I'm actually going to go so far as to suggest people should ride OLDER bikes and go out and get an awesome deal on bikes that may have a few years on them but will save you many thousands of dollars. Don't be afraid of an older bike because its not the latest and greatest thing. Throw the 'obsolete', 'less enjoyable' and 'worthless trade in value' right in the face of the salesman and get it for even cheaper.. LOL..
Speaking for myself; my 07 was not nearly as enjoyable to ride. When I took longer rides I would return feeling the effects of the distance. The 14 provides all day comfort and pleasure.
I disagree with the assurtion that the 14 touring bikes will have little effect on trade values. I based my report on feedback received from dealers and looking at actual inventories of used touring trade ins. Book values change rapidly and seldom go up or stay even.
I waited from 1996 until 2013 to upgrade from a RK to an Ultra Limited. So I'm definitely not in the 'Have the latest and greatest' crowd. A lot of people with the 2014's I get the impression that they just have to have the newest coolest thing out there. My '96 was awesome and I had just as much fun riding it than I do my '13. Some of the improvements of the 2014's would be nice but honestly would probably add very little to my enjoyment of riding.
If I still had my 96 and was looking to upgrade, I think I would buy a 14 but would probably try to wait for the 15's. I think they will tweak things a bit. The 14s were rushed and developed under cover of darkness. Now that the changes are in the open I think they will change things around a bit now that they will have a full year to see what worked and what didn't in a 'live' environment as opposed to a test track somewhere with hand picked parts.
The other factor to me would be financial. I got a great trade-in on my 96 because they knew the 14's were coming out. On a 2009 you are probably going to get screwed right now. Once the 15's come out the 'mystique' of the new model will wear off and they might be more willing to deal a bit more. Is it worth waiting another 7-8 months to save $1500-2000? That would be up to you to decide.
So MY suggestion is to not listen to ANYONE here. Listen to yourself. Does your bike still give YOU enjoyment and do what YOU need it to do while being reliable? If so, then wait.. if not, then upgrade..
I am actually hoping for some more or different color options in 2015. Not to say what they have out now isn't great actually they are gorgeous, but not for me. I go for more of the dark solid colors like the Midnight, Black or Dark Cayanne but right now Black seems to be the only solid color on the Limited
