I have a chance to buy a 2009 Street Glide w/13k on it.
Bike needs an outer fairing, front fender and a headlight. Person selling it says no other damage than that. I see Police bags on it and the Tank badges are different.
Been wanting to buy a Road Glide and I am thinking this might be a good candidate for a conversion. Am I correct in thinking that the gauges and wiring in the fairing are the same minus the dual headlight plug??
I don't think that is a Street Glide, looks more like a stripped down Ultra or Classic...Take a real good look at the front end, looks like there may be more damage there, I saved the first photo and enlarged it in Photoshop, something just doesn't sit well with the front end to me.
At a very minimum I would have a nearby dealer look at it before I bought it, if the guy doesn't want you to have it checked out by a dealer, just walk away quickly, there's something wrong and he doesn't want it known until after he's paid....JMHO
I would NOT by it. Be patient. Another good deal will come along. I would never purchase a salvaged bike. Frame damage is normally why the bike had to be salvaged. Eagle Rider is the best when looking for used Harley's. It's a national company that sells rented Harley's
the pic looking straight from the back looks like the bike isn't straight.
Just noticed that myself, looks like where the seat meets the tank there is a slight bend to the right, could be an optical illusion, but I would honestly just walk away from that bike....Could be a BIG CAN OF WORMS, and lots of money spent to fix it right!
I thought the front end looked "OFF" too....I am not in a rush just hate to pass up a deal. I thought it might be a stripped down Ultra....tank badges are different than a SG.
I have 3 in the garage that I don't ride enough so.....I might pass on this.
This guy is a few hrs from me and sells about 50 salvage bikes a year. To little cosmetic damage on that bike to justify a "total Loss"...JMHO
..STREETGLIDE?????..why in God would you think THAT is a Street Glide???? it's a Police Bike man...hockey-puck saddlebag lids...red cop buttons on the handlebars...FLH bumper on the rear fender...etc..etc..$8K for a crashed Police bike is NO BARGAIN...run from that deal...
If you decide to pursue it, bring a independent Harley mechanic with you...pay him if necessary take a hard look at the frame. Get the back story, see if its credible. Keep in mind your own mechanical ability. If you have pay somebody to work on & paint your bike, a project like this NEVER pays...it will only be a money pit. Pix prove or disprove nothing. If you are asute & are a good wrench, it might be a good deal!
