I've been putting off buying some rain gear because I have not done any long trips yet, so I figure I'll just watch the forecast....right?? Well I live in the Kansas City area and the forecast for yesterday (Sunday) said just a slight (yea right!!) chance for rain. I'd been out riding most of the day and the weather was perfect.....blue skies....dang it was nice. Wife calls me and she has set some plans with some friends to meet for a movie after she gets off work.....so I'm thinking....no big deal....I'll just continue riding and meet them there. So I did....the movie started at 7 PM and not a cloud in the sky. You all know where I'm going right? I get out of the movie and its thundering, lighting, and yes its raining. The wife gives me the "deer in the headlight" look and says....."your're not going to try and ride home in this stuff are ya??" What else am I going to do????leave it?? NO WAY!! So off I go.....thankfully, I had left the windshield on for that day....so it provided a bit of protection....but we sure got wet.....and arrived home safely So guess what I'm doing????? Thinking about what to keep in my bags for a repeat of such an event. How about some suggestions from our trusted forum experts? A stupid trash bag would of been appreciated last night!
Just thought I'd share.......I know I'm not the only one to experience gettn' caught in the rain.
Price of doing business...I don't own a rain suit as I live in the desert. About two or three weeks ago it was monsoon season and I got hit everyday in 40MPH winds and RAIN on the way home from work.
Frog Togs are supposed to be the cats meow...or so I've heard.
When we were in KCMo on the way to the 95th Anniversary I woke up at 3:00AM to the sound of rain. It didn't stop for the next 6 days. We had been in Milwaulkee for 3 days before it finally quit. Luckily we had HD's best rain suits, rubber boots, waterproof glove covers, and helmets with face shields. We keep full rain gear on the bikes at all times, even when just riding locally.
After the 1st two or three hours of rain you get used to it, and as long as you're dry it's no big deal.

Bill,
After this summer of monsoons, I've seriously considered buying some rain gear...how big are these? Do they fit in the saddle bag, and if they do, am I giving up the saddle bag? Are you familiar with Frog Togs and would you buy the HD over the Frog Togs?
My best rainsuit for keeping dry was the HD one-piece rainslicker. It was pretty easy to put on, and kept me pretty much completely dry even in driving rainstorms. But when the sun comes out, you'll want to take it off right away. I used one for about 4 years, then it developed a hole in the crotch which I could never patch. Then they changed the style, and I can't get my fat butt in the new ones (3XL). So I now use the standard issue two piece HD rainsuit with the orange jacket. It works well, and you can use the jacket alone for cool days. If you're going in and out of rain, you can leave the bottoms on, and ride without the jacket to stay cool.
I keep a rainsuit in my bike almost all of the time, but lately every time I ride I usually get hit by one of those pop-up showers. By the time you realize that it's raining your already wet and too stuborn to stop. At least that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
Neslon Rigg ax-1 2 piece is what I've got and it's been the best $50.00 I've ever spent. It's little bulky but with the summer we've had down here I make room.
I got mine here http://www.bransonwholesale.com/rainsuits.html the pictures don't do it justice. They have the heatshields for you legs. Well made and a nice fitting suit. My BH was impressed and bought one for herself. Not bad for $50.00
