Baker DD7 install....
I've had a DD7 installed for about a year now on a '10 FLHX with a 96 and 204 cams. Love it!
I would call it a "speed limit tranny". I always felt like I was just a little low or just a little high in RPM when cruising at most posted speed limits. With theDD7, can stay in the 26-2800rpm "sweet spot" and right at posted speed.
The combo also "spreads" the power-band a little. Tranny widens the curve to the left for hills/passing and the 204s widen to the right a bit for the "weeeee" end of scale.
Never seemed to me like a lot of excess shifting. Just shift when you need to anyway, just more available options with better RPM to speed match. 7th is no more or less useful/useless than stock 6th.

All this talk about ratio and sweet spot. The other benefit is its a much better built tranny than the clunk drive 6 speed HD gave us. The trap door bearings alone are worth the upgrade. Not to mention all made in the USA.
I was considering purchasing a 14 CVO Road King and did a test ride last week. After the ride and running the numbers I just could not part with my trusty, reliable 2007 Road King. I guess I have just put too much into this bike with all my mods and have it just about perfect for me, so why trade ? Plus I have bonded with this bike after 45000 plus miles. Though I do love the look of that CVO.
So I decided that as a consolation I will upgrade my current ride with a Baker DD7 and a SE 120R or possibly another big inch engine. I just ordered the DD7 from Eastern Performance. They had it on sale and I could no longer resist. My question is the install. Is it within the realm of a fairly competent home mechanic or no ? Any special tools required for the install?
I will be running the DD7 with my current 96 inch engine until probably next year when I will do the engine swap. Any advice on this ?

Now if I could just get a Hoban comp attached to the other end of the chain.......
Received my DD7, the high torque bearing, heavy duty throw out bearing. Still waiting on my Baker Burly primary cover, Baker attitude manual primary chain adjuster and Screamin eagle heavy duty clutch spring. What am I forgetting ?
Installation fluid.......beer
Thanks got both of those, Redline shockproof heavy for the tranny and redline primary for the primary case, and I ALWAYS have plenty of beer stocked up !
