I was considering purchasing a 14 CVO Road King and did a test ride last week. After the ride and running the numbers I just could not part with my trusty, reliable 2007 Road King. I guess I have just put too much into this bike with all my mods and have it just about perfect for me, so why trade ? Plus I have bonded with this bike after 45000 plus miles. Though I do love the look of that CVO.
So I decided that as a consolation I will upgrade my current ride with a Baker DD7 and a SE 120R or possibly another big inch engine. I just ordered the DD7 from Eastern Performance. They had it on sale and I could no longer resist. My question is the install. Is it within the realm of a fairly competent home mechanic or no ? Any special tools required for the install?
I will be running the DD7 with my current 96 inch engine until probably next year when I will do the engine swap. Any advice on this ?
Yeah, I think you'll be buying some special clutch tools, and if you don't have one, a service manual is essential...I'll guess you don't have one, if you didn't know about the tools...and I think the installation is well within the skill capability of a home mechanic...just take your time and read the manual first and keep it handy.
Baker publishes the installation instructions on their website, just find DD7 and the Technical tab. That in turn refers to your factory service manual, which between them will help you grasp the nature of the task ahead.
So many choices out there, he might want to keep an eye on the fuel moto 117 builds.
Exactly, a lot of choices out there. I will be taking my time and researching the options. Probably be winter 2014 for the engine swap. I want someone reliable and that is good for touring with plenty of power.
HDrolling, have you been happy with your 120R ? Anything you would do differently ? I see you have dresser duals, I have the V&H monster ovals which I really like. Did you lose a lot of torque staying with the duals over going with a 2-1 pipe ?
