I am looking at getting a 1998 FLHTC with 68000 miles I was wondering if there is any problems with this year of bike and how many more miles is the motor good for under normal conditions they want $8995 for the bike with lots of extras thanks
As you can tell....I have two. One has around 50,000 miles and the other has around 130,000 miles. Both are excellent rides...$8995 does not sound all that bad.
68,000 miles is not too bad either. I would definately change out the INA cam bearing to the Torrington cam bearing. The INA was a crappy cheap bearing that Harley decided to install in 1992 and on. The rear cylinder base likes to leak oil...common problem, but the aftermarktet has good ones out there. Everything else in the motor is solid...it is an EVO.
The Electra Glide does have some weaknesses though. The tourpack latches get loose and worn out. Brackets inside the fairing get weak and finally break...these are about the only problems that ever arise though. The front portion of the seat likes to tear after awhile.
Above all, it is an EVO powered Harley and with the carburetor. Super reliable transportation.
