This survey is to help forum readers determine the value of the Harley Extended Warranty Program (years 3 - 7) or (years 1-6).
Please respond about Dealer/covered service work performed IN the extended warranty time period
Indicate the value of service/parts received -- estimate the cost if performed outside the dealership if you can (for example: head rebuild at dealer $1200, outside dealer might be $800).
RE: Have you EVER used your Harley Extended Warranty
did not vote, never covered before til now. but have known 2 people to use. 1) swing arm problem back in 2000? but he paid cash(800$)and then later resold warrenty back to dealer instead. 2)had some issues with lights but fixed himself(20$)bulbs,but then right before his 1+3yr warrenty exp then primary nut had to be re-torqued,dont know the cost but was covered -50$.
RE: Have you EVER used your Harley Extended Warranty
Didn't vote, but the 2003's only had a year warranty. Past the year, had 2 sensors go and need replace. was worth having the extended warranty. Cashed in the unused portion when I bought an 06.
You can transfer it to the new owner or cash it in. You CAN NOT transfer it to your new bike.
RE: Have you EVER used your Harley Extended Warranty
Any consumer advocate (like Clark Howard in Atlanta) will tell ya extended warranties are always a bad deal. The manufacturer is betting you won't use it, therefore, free money for him if you take it. You are buying "insurance." When you buy a product, they tell you how great it is, how great a value it is and then they turn around and try to separate you from your money for an extended warranty. If the product is so good, why an extended warranty? Most things go wrong, it they do go wrong, the first 12 months. If you bite, that makes a good deal for you go bad anda good deal for the seller. I remember when I bought my Harley last year (06), the sales manager, "had it all ready" for me by the time I got in his door. His price and payments included the extended warranty. He had a tire mounted on the wall with a spike in it. The extended warranty he said covered road hazards. He wasn't happy when I said all I wanted was the factory warranty.

One man's opinion but it doesn't answer the poll which is the subject of the original post.
I've used mine twice, both times for tires. This was a covered item under the road hazard part of the extended warranty that would not have been covered by the standard warranty. First time I got a cut about 8" long in the front tire, I caught it during a wash. Second time was for a flat rear, got a screw in it. Warranty paid both times 100% including the tow for the flat. Total for the two times I've used it is about $650.00.

Neckball.
True, one man's opinion.
True again, my comment doesn't answer the poll of the original post. Thanks for pointing that out. But my commentsare related and informative I might add.
No offense. If extended warranties work for you, fine. They're not for me.
By the way, I did get a flat to the rear tire just a couple months after bringing the bike home. The Harley dealer wanted to replace the tire. Heck it was still a new tire. I probably didn't have 1,000 miles on it by then. The service rep said they wouldn't just replace the tube "because there was a channel in there." I took it to a local shop who replaced the tube. More than 5,000 miles later, I'm still riding on it. Cost me just over $100 to have it fixed. How much would I have spent on an extended warranty by now?

My tire had a screw in it with 5/32 tread depth left. \\; New tire, tube and labor covered under Tire Warranty. \\; Insurance only comes in handy when you need it. \\;
RE: Have you EVER used your Harley Extended Warranty
On the Deluxe I had the factory warrenty and an extended warrenty. \\; I had every bag (over $1500) I had bought with the bike replaced under warrenty. \\; The only other part was a $2 switch. Turned it in before the 2 years....
 \\;
In less time but more miles on the Ultra not one warrenty repair.
 \\;
Warrenties are a gamble. \\; But for first year items that are big changes I tend to buy them. \\;
 \\;
I bought a warrenty on my Murano because it was the first year for car and the CV Transmission in Nissans. \\; Go figure I have had thousands of dollars in warrenty repairs and not a dime on the transmission [&:]

Went to use my extended warranty today and was told I have no warranty left ( I do still hve 2 years remaining) This has just happened to another HD owner I ride with and there was nothing he could do about it so he has been told. I'm waiting to resolve the matter, but will go to court if needed.
So I don't think much of there warranty coverage yet... does seem a bit strange though......
