what 09B29 said. I too was spooked about pulling the tank when installing my first amp. You too will never look back after doing it the first time. Piece-o-cake.

Pulling the tank on my softail was a real PIA with the crossover line but on the SG its just a quick Disconnect and 2 bolts.

Removing the tank from the touring bikes is as easy as it gets. 4 bolts, a quick disconnect fuel fitting, and a wiring harness. Oh, and two small bolts for the console, which isn't really necessary to remove.

I'll echo the comments about running the wiring through the cable trough. In the front of the trough, there are a couple bundles of wires that run into the fairing, through large pieces of conduit/wireloom. There is enough space there to run the power wire through there as well, making the entire install as clean as stock. It's much better than trying to hide the wire any other way.

So you dont have to remove the console? Im going to be wiring my amp in the next week was looking at the tank removal proceedure in the service maual and it has removing the console as a step.

If you do not want to pull the tank for some reason... you can run your inline fuse under your seat... and use this as a disconnect if you ever have to remove the tank.
I did remove my tank when I ran mine, which took like 4 minutes total... but this is an option.

You will have to remove the console as that is how you unplug the fuel pump, and vent/over flow tube.

Never pulled the console on mine. I think that's a wasted step.

Just did mine a few weeks ago. Pull the tank and be done with it. 2 front bolts, 2 rear and fuel line. Ran the cables through factory tray on neck. Clean and won't have to ever move the wire again.

Just my opinion but remove the tank.

I don't know why people are so afraid to pull a tank off on these newer bikes. Literally takes 5 minutes. I can understand the 05 and priors because the tank was split and had that stupid crossover line in the front. that's not the case any longer.

pop the quick connect for the fuel line. It's self sealing so the most fuel you'll get out of it is a drop or two

pop the plastic black covers off the front tank bolts at the neck.
take the seat off
undo the 2 T40 bolts at front of tank on the neck
undo the 2 T40 bolts at the rear of the tank
on the SG unplug the single wire harness at the back of the tank where it goes under the seat and pull up the overflow line
on the EG, unplug the 2 harnesses at the back of the tank where it goes under seat and pull up the overflow line

At the top of the Audio section is a step by step instruction sticky with MANY different bikes down to the bolts for you to follow.

The fuel pump wires also have another disconnect inside the battery tray, and the overflow/vent tube can just be pulled out entirely.

There is no need to remove the console when removing the tank. But, there is more than one way to skin this cat...
