Default Amp wiring question SG-

Has anyone installed an amp without removing the tank, and run the power wires down to the battery under the tank console instead of the frame channels with the rest of the wiring? I've ben researching the sound upgrade and wonder if it can be done this way or should be avoided?

It can be done, but it's better to get it into the plastic wire tray under the tank. It helps protect it from damage and the heat coming off the engine. It only takes a few minutes to remove the tank. Just be sure to get the fuel level as low as possible so it's not so heavy.

If you still don't want to remove the tank, you can run it under the console. You will be able to easily see the wire though, and the install won't look as clean.

Another thing to consider if you run it under the console....if for some reason the tank ever has to come off guess what!!!! Your either gonna have to cut the wire or take the time to pull it all out. Just take the tank off the first time and be done with it.

Ive always just run it under the console with no problems and unless you really look hard behind the front of the tank its out of site. Thought about this question but never asked so a bit curious myself.

That's exactly what I was going to do until sbates pointed out that I may want to remove the tank someday !

you can pull the tank off in less time than it took Pioneer to type that....

easiest with fuel level low, figure out where you will put the tank down before you start

( the fuel line is a quick disconnect, no tools needed for the line, no drips, as long as the bike has been sitting for hours the fuel system will not be pressurized)

Just put the wire harness under the console wire it to the battery and be done with it..No need to remove the tank. On a black bike you can't even see it...
