If the local shop IS an auto upholstery shop or regularly does work on bike seats then fine. The Mean City Cycles guys did the work on my 2007 Ultra seat and it was awesome. You're gonna spend a lot of time in the saddle so it's worth the time and money to make sure it's right.
they are experienced in bike seats, had two in there when I was there yesterday. but he was asking what I wanted and I have no clue haha

ya, I went there yesterday and the guy shoed me around and explained the different foam and gel pads. the issue I am having is I don't know what I want aside from maybe lowering me an inch, but as for foam type gel pads shaping, ect

they said they shape it to how I want it then have me sit on it and when I like it they cover it up.

I guess I am trying to find out if anyone has used the gel pads (how did they like them) or different memory foam, or a seat shape that helped.

anything is going to be better than a stock seat with 55000m on it, I thought mine was great until I did an eight hour ride...

I had a leather Saddleman with gel in it, I absolutely loved it!

Wink

There are some members with gel seats and others with graded foam seats, it isn't easy to chose between them. A recent thread about gell seats commented on how hot they can get when left in the sun. It sounds like the firm you visited will probably allow you to try both options in their workshop, which is very well worth following up. It is difficult to imagine being in a better position than you are! Bite the bullet and go ahead.
