Hey everyone, just picked up me new 2014 Ultra Limited on Saturday, I installed the Helmet headset that came with it and when I try to call out or receive a call I get a very load cracking interference sound, anyone know what the problem maybe?
Obviously somethings not right. I'd take it to the dealer and get it checked out. May just be a bad headset. You might try plugging the headset into the rear port and see if the same thing happens. Also be sure the cord is plugged in correctly to the headset. Seems like I remember it was possible to plug it in wrong.

It had been my experience on my 2009...that the plug on the end of the cord could be inserted more than one way. Although mine never crackled....it did not transmit, and sometimes one speaker would not work. So, first, be sure you are inserting the plug correctly. Again, I only mention it, because it happened to me.
Thanks, I will try it on the back port and also check connections, I wish I could just go Bluetooth but from all that I have read it looks like this new boom box is very limited, if anyone knows of a Bluetooth headset that works on the new boom system please let me know.
I had the same thing on my bike when I first got it. Ended up being the Y cable to add the running/brake lights for the rear turn signals. Once I removed that, it has been crystal clear ever since. I haven't tried putting it back on since I dumped the HD headsets for J&M Elites.
I also was one of the first up here in the Massachusetts area who installed headset on my 2014 street glide. I was getting the crackling distortion and it turned out to be the connection near the headset. I pushed it in all the way but it actually goes in further. It snaps in and then the crackling noise will go away. I thought initially that it was due to the crackling of the radio but it was just a connection. I installed myself and thought i may have screwed something up.
I hope this helps. Not many dealers even installed any of these yet so we are all learning.
My problem now is that I did the new update and the headset is not working. I relocated the outlet from the tank area to the sidecover so it would be out of the way and now not working. I think it may be because of new download to fix other issues. I may not know till spring.
