I have two helmets with headsets, one has the harley headset, the other is a Nolan helmet with the Harley basic kit...
I had both headsets working, then the left headset speaker quit working, now the right has quit, so no sound in either helmet. volume is turned up, its not muted. can't believe that both helmets would have failed so quickly. i can't find a setting in the infotainment system that would account for this. am i missing something, or is it time for a trip to the dealer?

Guessing you will have to see the dealer. I'm using a headset that came with my 11 and the one that came with the 14 Limited. Working fine. Occasionally, the plug into the helmet side of the set loosens and I have to push it back in. You might want to make sure it is firmly pressed in.
Don't know of any setting that would effect like you describe.
Also make sure the plug is inserted properly. It is not uncommon to have the rotate a little and the wrong pins will be aligned with the wrong pins. The key on the plugs leaves something to be desired, and thus allows them to be inserted incorrectly.
OP, it's a little unclear to me what you're saying. But if you're saying the left speaker quit in both helmets at the same time, then the right speaker quit in both helmets at the same time…that sure doesn't sound like a coincidence. That sounds to me like there's a problem on the bike, not with the helmets. I'd approach it that way.
If you're talking about your 2014 FLHTK, go through the Infotainment user manual one more time and see if there's any adjustment that could account for this behavior. I have the 4.3 system, and there is a volume control that could kill both helmet speakers--which you've already checked. But I don't believe there's a balance control, or any other setting on my 4.3 system that could kill just one side at a time. But double-check the manual then if no joy...take it to your dealer.
Hope this helps.

It is odd that the speakers died, one side at a time. My guess is that you possibly pinched a wire when you installed the headset in the helmet. I would remove one of the systems from a helmet. Make sure the wire is plugged in securely in the headset and the bike. Then see if it works. Move all the wires and see if there is any crackling or other sound that would indicate a short. Before doing this though I would check the Infotainment system as mentioned before to make sure that the system is set to play on the headphones.
