I read that and it's definitely got me second guessing HIDs.

If $$ are a problem I would suggest replacing the headlight with the LED's. Another friend did the spots only and it is an improvement but far less so than the headlamp conversion.
Did you install the reflector or projector style LED on your friends EG? How's the light while not running the spot lights? I think I'm sold on the HD reflector style LED as long as it puts out good light to the sides as well as the front. From everything I've read I'm sure it's going to be far better than the stock halogen.

Much mo betta during the day, too.
I did that mod on my '07 SG and it definitely made a difference just with stock halogens, problem is I don't plan on running spots on the '13 SG. I'm hoping the new HD reflector style LED will have a nice spread of light on it's own.

Not always true. Bi xenon bulbs in a Road Glide give a very defined line between low beam and high beam. (See pic) It does scatter on high beam, lightling up the shoulders for 20 yards on either side which is good for me living out in the country. And I never run those with cars coming at me. I have never been flashed by an oncoming vehicle when on low beam however, and they are very, very bright.
ran my HIDs all last summer , several night rides and never got flashed and have them in my spots also , I do have them on switches so I can turn them all off at start up as they do warn you that the low voltage of a motorcycle at start up can damage them , no problems so far and have my spots on with the high beam also
I have the socal bi-xenon kit in my roadie. Only problem I had was when first installed had a dark section right out in front of bike. Took the bulbs out and removed the metal plate screwed to them. Now they are super bright all around. Have only had a couple cars bright me and I do a large amount of night riding. Awesome is all I can say. I got the kit with a group buy price off another forum.
I put an HID in my stock headlight housing of my '08 FLHX. Very bright and I could see great. But unfocused and the people that rode with me say it was obnoxious. I talked to the guys at socalmotogear about it. They didn't really offer me a solution. That bike is gone now and I'm going to look at other lights this time and considering buying the daylighter.
Does anyone know why you get a 4 year warrantee on the same light from J.W. Speaker, vs. the daylighters 1 year warrantee from HD?
okay -- so here is my report back - rode 20 miles tonight (8 pm) with just my low beam (TL) and no spots -- the road was illuminated side to side -- I did one section of about 1 mile with 4 lanes and some curve-- when I was in the far right lane my light projected across 3 lanes to the left and easily lit up the side of the road. Back on the 2 lane portions -- there was no trouble seeing side to side while cornering and easily 30 feet out into the side of the road -- . This is one of the best investments I have made - Your opinion may vary.

Thanks for getting back to us. So the spots aren't really necessary then?
