You will probably feel a nice power boost as well! My vote is a tuner is always a good thing even on a stock bike. These things are EPA lean to start with so the tuner will make a stock bike run better.
About sums it up........well put.

I have a set of 4"Rinehart's and a head pipe that I have removed the cat from, stock exhaust is still on for now.
If you change to an open breathing air cleaner, your Stage 1 will be complete...after you get a tuner/tuner. Keeping the PowerVision on the handlebars is an option if you want to look at the gauges, etc. but to use autotune, you can keep it in the saddlebags or wherever. Once you flash the tune to the bike (ECM), the PV can be removed.

Unhappy

I kinda wish I bought my Power Vision from Fuel Moto rather than Dynojet. Fuel Moto is cheaper and comes with the visor and mount and seems like they have more maps available.

I don't think you're missing much by having more maps available. The key is to do a few autotunes. As for the visor...only important if you plan to mount the PV permanently. I didn't see a need to do that.

Thanks Hausguy, air cleaner and a 4 point/sissy bar combo are next on the list as mad money allows.

I didn't get the autotuner but if I had wouldn't I need to mount it to the bike to run it?

Nope. Depending on where you buy the PV, it will come with a custom "base" map. There are also a bunch of other base maps already installed that you could choose from. You could just load one of these tunes, then flash your bike with that and be done with it...unplug and put it back in the box. Once you've flashed your bike, you can run some Autotunes to fine tune your ride even more. You basically just turn it on and go for a ride. When you're done you update your bike and that's it. I did it a few times and am pretty much good to go. While doing the autotune, I just kept the unit in my saddlebag and went for a ride. I'll probably do another one and then it will go back in the box.

By the way, Basic Autotune is free and comes with the PV and it works with the stock O2 sensors. You can also buy the Autotune PRO which requires different sensors and is supposed to be a notch better than the basic.

Thank you very much. I can't wait for all this snow to melt to actually get out to put the new exhaust put on. I went on youtube and look at a video about the basic auto tune.
