I got jumped seven months ago, blew out my L4 and 5 with it crushing my S1 nerve. Have been through rounds pt, 3 epidural shots and they have done nothing. I have surgery scheduled for next week finally.
Riding these 7 months I would be good for about an hour then would have to stop and walk around. One time the pain was so bad, I pulled into a 7-11 and laid in the parking lot. Luckily it was warmer then.
I am told some have disk herniations and ruptures and never feel it. But surgery is my last option. Doctor says about one to two months off the bike.
I see we are not alone with back problems I have had mine for over 25 years and have only found the cause the last 5 years and are dealing with accordingly, homeopathic chiro and infrared sauna, for those of you that have pinched nerves look up laser spine institute which I tried but they turned me away my symptoms were worse than my MRI showed maybe some of you can benefit from them
During extreme back episodes, riding would be impossible. I injured my back almost 40 years ago. During that time, I have gone a few years without a flare up. The orthopedic surgeon told me that therapy and then even more therapy would be used in order to avoid surgery. Knowing several people that have elected to have back surgery, most of them still have pain.
My GP prescribed Mobic which works great. I don't have a back rest on the HD but do have a back brace. Have you tried using a back brace? They sell them at CVS.
I herniated a disk about 4 months ago. There's an acupuncturist / chiropractor from Egypt that has a practice close to me. I had been going to him for torn tendons in my elbows so I went to him. All I can say is, "Simply amazing". The first thing he did was a bit painful, he bled my legs, then he did the acupuncture which I've had done countless times for other injuries. I've always had very good results with acupuncture. I still take daily supplements from him and go for a treatment about once a month. I can honestly say I'm pretty much pain free and was probably a month after the injury, but my back is more sensitive to any bumps or jarring.
I did upgrade the shocks on my '14 SG since then with legend Revo's but wasn't able to get a test ride in before winter really hit here in Wisconsin. It's been a really long, cold, snowy winter here so far and I don't see spring coming any too soon either. I am excited to get the first ride with the new shocks to see how my back handles the bumps now.
Best of luck with your bad disk!! I always try to remember what the acupuncturist told me, "If whatever you're doing is causing you any pain, you're injuring it further, stop ASAP"
Jim
I have 3 herniated discs and arthritis in my back my Dr. told me the best thing is to weight lift to strengthen up my upper and lower back, shoulder, and stomach muscles to take the strain off of my back I have had this problem for 15+ years and no surgery just work out stretch and stay active. Had sciatica in right leg 1 1/2 years ago got my 4 spinal injections after being off work for 6 weeks and I am good to go rode over 2,000 miles last summer in 7 days no pain. Everyone is different just do what you have to do to stay upright.
Amazing how we all are experiencing all these back & leg ailments and the similarity of symptoms...I guess the price of getting old...feels some sense company, I guess misery invites company...lol
Lots of good advise and one method may work for some, but may not for others...I know, I need to get off my lazy *** and start working out...getting old is not fun...my goodness, what disease or aliments could be next, dementia...
