The absolute best way for you to go is as listed:

Lose at least 5-8lbs if you are trim, more if you are fat.

Invest 15 minutes a day in an inversion table, best 300 bux i spent

stay away from shots, this is only temporary relief and will most likely do more damage in the LONG run than good.

do a few situps every day, a strong stomach makes for a stronger back.

L3,4,5 are blown out since 1999....still ridin street and dirt with these few tips above.

Yes temporary but it helps so much.

I've been doing the cortisone and radio frequency at my old pain management center in Shreveport for three years. For the Army to pay for it I would have to get two cortisone sessions done within a 3 month time period those last 1-3 days. If they worked then I would qualify for the more expensive radio frequency shots that last 6-8 months! Yes 6-8 months of almost no pain is temp but still better than the surgery that I would need, I was told if I got the surgery I would have to walk with a cane for the rest of my life or worse and I would never be able to bend forward at the waist again. That's what my lovely surgeon in FT Sam Houston told me my options were.

If you have never had the radio frequency I highly recommend it.
They also wanted to install a spinal cord stimulator and after watching the video they gave me I said I would go without, that thing looks like it would be more trouble than good.

There are some of us that sit-ups are out of the question, and I would if I could.

Im l3,l4,l5
This last year has been the worst in twenty years of dealing with it. started a diet to lose twenty pounds and started off hanging on a bar doing knee crunches and im starting to get some relief.
i think if ibuprofren and some diet and excersise help i'm still staying away from the knife. as long as i take some pain relief in the mornings i'm good for a whole day of riding.
i replaced factory oil in rear shock with 10wt fork oil and i dont get the jaring with the shocks. if you serch this forum there is a explination on how to.

At physical therepy we are working on Ab strengthening excercises that do not put a strain on the lower back the threrpist told me that for older folks sit-ups are the worst thing that they actually weaken the lumbar region making you more prone to disk herniation.

Hd rolling- I'm about the same as you. Def need higher bars to sit u upright more and relieve some of the pressure. I have been thru 4 seats to find the right one. And just veries on the day how the pain is wether I use the drivers backrest. My best suggestion is find whats most comfortable for u and don't over due it. No matter the pain I will ride until I cannot.
