Hey fellas I tipped my 01 flhtp over in the driveway 2 weeks ago and dairyland totaled it saying that I had a bent tab on my frame. Oh well got 10k of the deal so I'm not mad especially after 82000 miles on the old girl. Had to put her out to pasture. Any way, I caught a eBay deal for an 09 flhtp with 16000 miles for $11k. I got 2 questions...
Were there any problems I should know about for that year that weren't already covered under recalls?
And the dealership is pressing me about the extended service program. I began to feel them because I spent a assload of money keeping that 01 running. But on the other hand, this is a 09, new frame. It shouldn't be that bad right? Any suggestions...
I had to have my compinsator nut re torqued once. Also the turning radius is a little shorter than the 2010 and newer. Thay say the powder coating on the forks wasnt taken into consideration when the first of the new model came out. Unless your gonna do manuvering competitions I wouldnt worry too much about it.
Brake switch recall no biggie.
I have a 09 Ultra Classic with 52,000 miles on it. Other than a battery, front wheel bearings and tires I only put gas in it and go. What is this compensator issue everyone is talking about. Am I just lucky since I have no issues. This bike is the smoothest running bike I ever owned.
The on going comp sprocket is the BIG one.
Also some other items to watch out for is the rear brake switch (already mentioned) some plastic tabs for the gas tank that cover the front bolts, the swing arm can retain water. (easy fix, relocate the drain hole and plug up the original hole) had some problems with tire wear with the tires.
But the BIGGEST problem is getting the grin off your face because it's a great ride!
