I have been lurking over here in the Baggers section off an on for a couple weeks now. I really got the itch to trade my beloved FXDC in on a bagger - long story about the Mrs on back and a 700+ mile weekend. I'm leaning toward an 09 FLHT or FLHR.
Anyway, I saw in a reply to someone's post a reference to "another 09 bagger problem..." so, I'm wondering, with all the changes HD made to the bagger line in 09, are there a bunch of problems out there? Should I wait and get a '10 or later?
I really like what I've read about the changes in 09 and I'm renting a '90 FLHTCU next week for a few days to feel for myself. If however, I'm looking at buying $20K of miscellaneous problems, I can wait.
Ton of bugs on the 09 only if you ride through a swarm of em....
Only problem... that I can see on the 09 touring bikes is the new swing arm _might_ hold water that is rusting? I am sure you can patch the tiny hole in the front of the swing arm..easy enough so that water wont sit in there.... Simple fix...
Firstly, bigdaddymike, you either have to enlarge that avatar or get rid of it, drives me nuts.
Back to the OP, the only problem I am seeing with the 09 is I dont have enough time to ride it. I had a 07 RKC loved it but the 09 is light years ahead in ride quality. You could wait to see what they come up with in 0-10 but think either way ya good wouldnt be wrong.
I would not rent a FLHTCU because you wont give it back, hehe, lots more posts on that than rust in the swing arm.
Other problem, is the front tire, make sure you have them put the new one on, think its 408 or 708. If you are a pretty agressive rider the older 09 version wont last but 10 k befor it starts cupping, this is the only issue I had, the dealer did the right thing at 10k service, replaced for free..
