This threat is hilarious. I will give you my .02 I have engine guards on my bike. I agree they aren't the best looking thing, but there is a purpose. BUT, I will tell you that if you bike goes over they won't save you as much as you think. My bike went over with the guards, I still needed to replace the outer fairing, bars, saddle bags and floor boards. Total from the insurance company was in excess of 6000. It is what it is.... As others have said your bike your legs, your decision.

.......lets see, I've dropped it twice, hit two deer.....crash bars have saved me each time...staying on.

I put mine on in the winter, when I hang the fairing lowers that keep my feet dry during the rainy months. The lowers and crash bar comes back off in the spring. One of these days, I'll buy a set of Accutronix forward controls, and the crash bar won't be an option. Except for dresser Harleys, I've never owned a bike with a crash bar, it's not something I consider essential.

A good buddy of mine has a '07 street glide and he took the guards out. about one month goes by and down he went at a gas station. The damage was major. after the repairs the guards went back on..just saying
