I just changed out that useless air temperature gauge in my fairing to an oil temp gauge. I have to say though, breaking that pipe plug loose on the oil pan so that I could install the sending unit was a bit unnerving. That plug was sure tight. When I did finally break it loose, it had what looked to be red loctite covering all of the threads. Don't understand why that was necessary. I really thought the threads were going to come out of that pan with the plug.
Then you have to find out, do you read the gauge with the needle ON the number, or the needle on the DASH below the number? OK.......gauge says oil is a little high?
What is HIGH?! Is 350 too HIGH.....400? 420? Thank goodness for that gauge.
If I did not have that gauge, I woukd be riding down the road instead on parked along the road.....wondering what the gauge meant (I had an oil temp gauge).
On my 2000 Ultra, I replaced the ambient temperature gauge with a compass.
I'm not replacing the gauge on my '13 CVO Ultra unless I can get an oil temperature gauge with a matching faceplate.
Currently, I'm using the digital oil dipstick temperature gauge.
The air temp on a SGS can be accessed from the infotainmant center been wondering if a kit will come out to change that to oil temp. I always thought the air temp was a bit useless.
