I am getting quite a bit of oil out of my air cleaner on long rides. I figured it was because they are overfilling at service, but anyone else having this issue? Aside from a bit of a mess to clean up, any real harm?
I don't believe the oil level has any real impact on oil in the air cleaner. All three of my FLH bikes have leaked oil out of the A/C. I finally found a permanent fix. I have the Ness Big Sucker, and I drilled and tapped for braided steel lines and ran them under the motor. No more oil in my combustion chamber or dripping on my cam chest.

In a word: No.
"Quite a bit of oil" can be rather subjective. So, what are we taking about? If it is the occasional drop on your chrome, stuff a folded over paper towel in your air cleaner every couple of months. This problem can manifest itself in the hot summer months when oil tends to expand and is forced out the breather at highway speeds over extended time frames. That is normal. If you live in a hot part of the country, try reading the owner's manual and using a 50 weight oil in the crankcase (like they recommend). If you have changed your EOM air cleaner out to something else, that may be the problem. And, it might just be that someone has put too much oil in the crankcase.
My '01 FXD did this on a trip once. We crossed Washington and then into Montana, as soon as we hit freeway and ran up to about 80 it blew a bunch of oil down the right side of the bike, don't know the amount but it covered the pipes, contaminated the brake pads and in general just made a heck of a mess.
Fortunately there was a dealer nearby, they claimed they see it quite a bit with people coming from lower elevations and usually attribute it to too much oil in the crankcase. With the oil level set towards the lower end of full it never happened again on that trip or since.
