I have a question for the people that have XM and Roady XT and play it through the AUX with a patch cord. I do not want this to turn in to the virtues of XM "vs" Sirius there are several other areas to discuss this in.
My wife has XM in her car and we have it on our TV with Direct TV. We like the programs and I can add the extra radio for only about $7.00 dollars a month. So XM it is.
My question is about volume. The radio when I play AUX with XM is only half of the normal volume on FM/AM stations. I have the 2006 HK radio with 8.19 software update and I have Hog Tunes.
I used to have the XT before I got a Zumo 550.....I played through the radio with the FM modulator that is in the power plug and I had great volume....there is also a menu item in the XT that will let you up the base volume....try that first
I mounted a cigarette lighter behind my fairing and had the XT power plug taped into it .... worked great
I have a Sirius set up with the patch cord and have also noticed the volume is not as loud as the FM radio.Same thing with my Ipod. Guess they have it set up so you will buy the factory stuff.
On the I pod turn up the volume on the Ipod till you get the volume you want at half volume on your Radio then it'll jam as you turn it up, same thing on you XM
Don't have an iPod but do have a "flash" player that I feed into the radio. I set the volume on the flash player at maximum, and let the bike system do the rest. Works great. But then, my radio is Radio Sound.
Mounted a XM Sportscaster just below the Speed Housing on my '07 RG... It has a built-in wireless FM mod and just ran the Antenna under the fairing & out to the upper dash.... Works GREAT - Looks Great and never have a problem with Volume and it only cost $29.00... [8D]

Have the volume control on the Sirius and the Ipod all the way up and still do not get same volume as with the FM. Have also tried the FM transmitter built into the Sirius, but thevolume isstill lower. It's enough to hear OK, but sometimes something comes on you want to really crank up but there ain't nothing left.
I don't use the FM transmitter (even thought it is a cleaner install) because at about 100 miles out of town, I started picking up interference from FM stations on the frequency I use. I could keep changing the frequency but that gets to be a major hassle if you are on a trip. I got a 2' patch cord and run it behind the speedo so it doesnt look too bad.
I use to run my Mp3 player into the AUX front plug-in off my HD factory radio (2003) and when I first installed it, the volume was really low. As stated above, I set the volume on the Mp3 player to maximum and then regulated the volume on the radio and all was good again. Since then I've changed to the Biketronics radio with XM module and don't have the problem anymore. Just listen to XM or Mp3 discs through the Sony radio and life is good in the fast lane!
I have the RoadyXT and notice that the volume is nowhere near as loud as a CD or the radio. And I have mine hardwired and use the aux. plug. I have even tried setting the output on the RoadyXT all the way up but then the sound distorts way too much. So changing the volume per what source I am using is something I just have got used to doing.
