Batwing Bracket Again....
Hey, I'm in for a set. Better replace both with better ones. I have had them replaced before but I have noticed the windshield and fairing vibrates too much while riding. Must be the brackets again.Jim
there is a metal fabrication shop close to my house that deals in restaurant style stainless steel fixtures. I am planning on buying a left/right bracket from the HD dealer and take to them to get a price on how much to fabricate a better bracket out of thicker material an in SS. If the price is reasonable I will get them to make 25 sets or so and advertise them on eBay and here. This is definitely one of the items that HD should improve. BTW, if the cost is not outrageous, i will sell them for my cost as this is something all of us touring riders can benefit from.
Ditto there John, put me down for a set also. Today I happen to take the front of my batwing off to install an oil temp gage when I noticed that the bracket on the clutch side was broken. I temporally fixed it with a washer but I would like to replace both brackets with some heavier duty...

My fairing rattles a bunch on the left side. If I grab ahold of it I can stop it. I am also wondering how much I need to tear apart to inspect these brackets.
Removing the front of your batwing is quite easy as long as you have a #25 torx driver. First remove your headlight chrome ring. Then remove the four screws that hold the light fixture to the batwing. Make sure you don't mistakenly try to unscrew the headlight adjusting screws.[:@] Next just unplug the headlight and put on the side.
Next just unscrew the four screws on both sides of the fairing. The ones that old those plastic wind deflectors on. Once you got those off you will need to reach inside the back of the fairing, just inside the forks, to find two more torx screws. One on each side. It helps to turn your front wheel hard to the side to be able to reach those inside screws.
Now unscrew the three screws that hold the windshield on. Do the two outsides ones first then while you unscrew the center one you can use your free hand to hold the front of the fairing from fallin off. Nothing would ruin a day or weeklike dropping your nicely painted front batwing on the ground.
That's allthere is to it. Total time to remove - 15 minutes tops...
Good luck.

If you have a Advance Auto Parts store in your neighorhood you can pick up a #27 there for under $5....
it might be a week or so before i can get to the fabricator for an estimate. I will keep you all informed of progress.
