Default Shock Puked it's Oil

Well, after ten months of ownership I have my first failure with Ruby (2013 FLHTK). After a couple of hour ride the other day I parked the bike in the garage. The next morning I found a puddle of oil under the left muffler. I've traced the oil to the left rear shock. Guess I'll be speaking with the dealer in a couple of days. Anybody else have their rear shocks fail?

Happened to my 2012 FLHTCU on the right side. Dealer handled no charge. Slight inconvenience.

Yes, my left shock failed the same way with 1200 miles on the bike. No problem getting it replaced under warranty. Then I ripped them off and replaced with Progressive air shocks.

Have the dealer replace both shocks then remove both shocks and replace with good shocks.

Never had one leak. Do yourself & passenger a favor. Get some real shocks. Good luck.

Call Howard get some JRI shocks (motorcycle metal) JRI SHOCKS or if you don't like those try progressive, or suspension technologies Suspension Technologies -- Products
those are the only 3 brands you would need to know. Good luck but give Howard a call first.

More than likely the air hose was not sealed correctly from the factory.
Easy fix.

Yeah, I guess my dilemma was whether to have the dealer fix it or just buy a good pair of shocks. My initial reaction is to have them fix it just so they know it's a weak point. However, knowing that I'm going to rip em off and put something worthwhile makes it seems like a waste of time to have the dealer fix em.

since its a 13, have the dealer do the assessment. If they replace the shock, then its warranty and no problem. If they fix the line and it quits leaking, no problem.

You opening comment was this was the 1st problem. Apparently the shocks really haven't been a big deal up until now as you have not replaced them as of the date of your post.

Logic indicates, if the shock had not leaked, you might have replaced them in the future, but probably not right now.

therefore, the immediate answer is let the dealer deal with it and have no cost out of pocket.

Once you decide you want different shocks, then you will have perfectly good shocks to sell on ebay or to hold on to for re-installation when you trade

I could very well be wrong as i have limited information and therefore my thoughts are only my opinion. I hope what ever solution you choose is the one that works out for you best.
