I wanted to add the new HK system to my 2003 Road Glide last year and was told it is NOT compatible with the older OEM systems .. so I went with the Biketronics "Retro Radio" setup .. it's been good for me so far and still maintain all the handlebar controls.
As I understand it......
When installed the new HK radio requires a VIN be programed in. It has to be an 06 or newer VIN to work. There was a dealership that was loading fake VIN in order to do the retrofit but I understand Harley put a quick stop to it...
I believe Roeders HD in Sandusky OHis selling the kits again to put the new radio in. For the money, I would say keep the stock radio and add an IPOD, or if you have to have a CD, go with the Biketronics kit--better sound for half the money, but you lose the stock appearance
