Going to go with the Xied. I greatly appreciate the input. Maybe you guys can help me with one last question-What setting do i use for a 96 with stage 1 mods? Thanks again for all the input. Merc

There is no adjustment on the XiED kit. It's a 10-minute install, if you want to be neat about it!
I have the FL-XiED-10 kit on my 2011 SG with Stage 1, and I love it. It does what it needs to do.

Update-Removed the Fuel tuner that was on the bike. If the pic loads, here is the process. Had to take the tank off to get to the connectors on the injectors. Xieds went in EASY. Thanks for all the tips. I'll post an update when I get out on the road (after all this effing snow melts!).

mercu136. For the basic setup you are looking for without major mods, stick to fuel management (enrichment). Most modern day HD's are so lean from the factory that the ECM will always optimize for the EPA settings. HD's run better with a little more fuel than the ECM provides.
1. XiED's, ViED's, Fuel Management Modules i.e Fuelpak will work for basic Stg 1 configurations. They can be adjusted to the minor mods you may put on the stock engine. Tuners are unnecessary and most expensive of the group.
2. If you plans are to modify the engine, cams, cubic inch increase, then a tuner is you best bet to accommodate all these additions.
3. If you are into racing your bike as well, then definitely a tuner (race tuner) is best of all.
Many choices, depends on money you wish to spend and what is your real need on your ride.
Hit 51 degrees yesterday so I took the bike out to see how it worked.
1st observation was sound-the smaller baffles with intact wrap definitely toned down the exhaust.
2nd observation-no more backfiring. Nothing. Not once.
3rd observation-decrease in performance, but a smoother, steadier application of power. It appears my old tuner was just dumping a lot of fuel in to the engine. A hard twist of the throttle, and the bike jumped. It also gurgled and backfired ALOT.
So now, my seat of the pants test reveals a smoother, steadier acceleration, and a quieter, more livable exhaust tone.
Disclaimer: While 50 feels like a friggin heat wave, it is still cool to ride in. I used a 3/4 helmet as opposed to a 1/2 helmet that I normally wear. That may have changed the perception of the exhaust tone.
I appreciate all the posts with your experiences and recommendations.
