I decided to upgrade my 6.5 Infotainment system to the newest .4 software. I'm semi computer literate and I'm sure lots of others on here are not Bill Gates either. Just thought I'd share the problems and solutions. Computer gurus need not read on.
Got on the Harley USA site under "owners" it has the "infotainment" logo, click on that
You will see upgrades, it defaults to the standard 4.3, if you have the 6.5 like me, click on "premium"
You will see the download and instructions. This is where the translation becomes tricky for those not super savvy.
Download "save" into your documents section.
I made the mistake of trying to send the download right to my thumb drive. Did that and when I tried to plug it into the bike, it didn't recognize the file.
That because it's still compressed, (zipped)
So I then put my 8G thumbdrive back in and EXTRACTED the files to it. That's the secret, the instructiions do not use the same terms the Windows did. Once they were extracted (unzipped) into the thumb drive the bike radio recognized them right away and upgraded itself. Just hope this helps someone.

i did not have to extract the file.
downloaded file from HD to desktop. Double clicked the zip file and copied the 1 file shown onto thumb drive. Worked just fine

Yeah you did, you just don't know it. Double clicking a zip file opens it and extracts the files.
Thanks Eastexultra, that's my point of this whole thing. Bottom line was ya just can't download the file directly on to a thumb drive and plug it in your bike. I appreciate your input. I wasn't lookin for 15 different ways to explain it, just tried to keep it simple
Thank you Gunnysgt; I have been fooling around with the 4.3 download for an hour or so until I finally searched the HD forums and found your post. Worked great after I unzipped the file on my desktop then sent it to a flash drive. Like you said the instructions on the HD site aren't clear for us non computer whiz kids.
