OP, instead of Chicago, I think you should come east to Connecticut. Got a great dealer by me, and also have a not so great large volume dealer that will sell for less. But more importantly, if you wouldn't mind bringing me a Primanti Bros. capicola and a few Quaker Steak Atomic wings I would be much appreciative.
No matter WHAT you buy... or WHERE you buy it... soon as the deal is done... there will be someone who will post how they got the same for less.
Know what you want, and know what the price is.. get you best deal and move on. Folks who go home" to sleep on it", often get PO'd because the deal went to someone else.
I would rather pay a little more and get a bike I love, then get a great deal on something I like. You have to be like a Cobra. Do your due diligence, but when the moment is right, Wham!
I am always checking values on motorcycles, cars, bikes. But when I decide to buy, it only takes me 1-2 days to finalize the deal. I found a truck I wanted this summer, drove 4 hours to Minneapolis, got there an hour before closing, and traded in my old truck, and did the financing in less than an hour.
Traditionally I have always got the best deals on a motorcycle in the fall and it's a good time to buy gives you the winter to accessorize and plan trips. Deals are still out there though I just picked up a non current other brand motorcycle for my wife $1400 under list and no frt or pdi. Good luck I hope you can get it together soon, March will see a lot of showroom traffic and may make it all the harder. Let us know how you make out.
OP, I realize that this is the age of the internet and such. And Amazon, eBay, and other online sources make buying easy. But there are some things you just have to get off your butt and go into the store to make a deal.
NO truer words have been spoken, and thank you for your service Danny!
It's better when you have a salesman you have done business with. Mine (Shon Culpepper at Thundertower in Columbia SC) knows when I call him I am going to buy a bike. I tell him what I want , he asks how many miles on my bike and calls me back in 20 minutes with the numbers including anything I want added to the bike. That;s usually what takes so long, getting the parts and service guys to price it out. He gives me the numbers, heres your trade, heres the new bike plus stuff, here's the difference out the door. I ask when it will be ready to pick up and tell him I am bringing a check. No financing no muss no fuss, I ride it home.
Thanks to all that replied. I held off responding to the thread because I was pissed. My wife works a 24/7 schedule in an ER and we have three kids so my schedule is tough. Finding time to get out to the dealership can be tricky sometimes.
But today I went out to the dealership today and bought a Limited.
Dealer #1, I'm 95% sure they took that deal. There's more details than I care to go into here and it's water under the bridge anyway.
Dealer #2, well, it's water under the bridge anyway too.
Anyway, I went out to dealer #3 today and we came to a number and I bought the bike. The sales guy there really is an excellent salesman and while I didn't get the best price, I'm happy with what I paid. The bike will be delivered in a week or two. I'm in no hurry because there's another 4" of snow coming tonight.
