When I read your posts describing the amount of oil carry over you have with your bike, I knew you would not be happy with with the Breather Bolts and I asked you to return them BEFORE installing them.

You went ahead and installed them anyway and have since been been posting regularly, carte blanche, that if anyone uses them they will get oil down the side of their bike. This is simply not true.

You are correct, every bike is different, but most bikes do not have excessive carry over, and the Breather Bolts will work fine with most bikes.

Here is a good reference post (I know you've seen it already, but I am posting it for everyone else reading this thread)

No argument from me from what you stated but maybe we need to know just how many touring bike riders on this forum have actually installed the breather bolts and if so, what our their opinions.

From being on this forum for several years, there appears to be more bikes with the blow by issue then with bikes without it.

Maybe I babied my motor by breaking it in as the manual stated? I run about 1/4 quart low on the Mobil 1. Even with the vent to ground I'm running now, I still get a drip after running it at highway speeds for any length of time.

As far as the breather bolts, I really wanted them to work for me and yes, I should have listened to you and I will be mute on this subject in the future.

Hey HDV,

I certainly did not mean in anyway that I thought it wrong for you to comment on the subject. I was only commenting that I believe your numerous posts that one would be lucky if the didn't get oil spray was not an accurate characterization.

There are definitely bikes that have more oil carry over than normal, and the breather bolts are not a good fit for those bikes...and it is far better for people to know that Before hand so they can get a traditional hose & filter set-up or the discrete breather set-up, either from us, or build one themselves.

I cannot speak to the HDForum universe...I don't know how many of our Customers are on HDForum, some other forum, or not on any forums.

We have had Outlaw Breather Bolts for Sportsters for 5-6 years now. We have sold many thousands of them.

We have only had the Twin Cam Outlaw Breather Bolts for a little less than 2 years. I just looked up numbers on them. We have shipped 1021 pairs in the last 20 months. We have had less than 25 (2.5%) that have let us know that they had oil misting problems with the BB's.

As you know, Superior Customer Service is one of our Top 3 Priorities, we want to have only happy Customers. We make every effort to make every Customer experience be how we want to be treated when we are a Customer somewhere.

Hopefully when anyone is unhappy with any aspect of an order with us, whether the product, the shipping time, etc., they will let us know so we can do our best to make it right.

But we are aware that some are so used to poor service that they don't even bother trying to contact us, to give us a chance to make it right for them.

I say all this to let you know that there is no way to know for certain how many Twin Cam Customers have had issues and not let us know. But certainly it is not a high number.

Of course, this is also influenced by us making every effort to help a person get the correct product for their particular situation...so many never try the BB's because they know their bike is spitting more oil than normal.

I agree with you, there should be no Twin Cams that come out of the factory with excessive oil carry over, but there are many, and this could be from any variety of reasons. I have tried to list all the potential causes in the link above.

btw, like you, I break-in my bikes per the manual (or pretty close) and have not seen any negative side effects.

I did have an umbrella valve go bad on one of my bikes a couple of months ago. Since I have not taken the time to replace it, I am running a discrete breather system on it now. Once I replace it, I will probably go back to the BB's. I'm not in any particular hurry, it runs fine.

FWIW, this last Thursday we had 4 bikes that we put on the Dyno, testing different parts. We did 135 total pulls. 1 of them is a Stage II, the other 3 are Stage 1's. The Stage II and 2 of the Stage 1's have BB's and the other Stage 1 has a Discrete Breather. None of them had any spray at the end of the day, nor did the Discrete leave its' mark on the ground.

I think it would be cool if you started a Poll to find out how many late model TC's have excessive oil carry-over and how many don't. That would be really interesting.
