I too thought this was overpriced when I first saw it..but I hated that stock cable thingy and the retractable one didn't seem much better. Neither one seems strong enough in my opinion.. I bought the Ultra Brace and I'm glad I did... As often as you open and close your tourpak , it's definitely worth the price.

I have the retractable tether also. It seems like it's kind of on the delicate side for it's purpose. I treat it accordingly. I really didn't like the stock tether always getting caught in the seal between the lid and the pack.

I saw a picture of a tour-pak where the guy had put two of the retractable tethers on -- one retractor attached to the lid and the other one to the body of the pack so the two were opposite each other. It looked good and beefed up the lid retention while giving a bit more piece of mind. Can't remember where I saw it, probably on this forum somewhere.... The hinge is on my dream list, but I agree it is pricey!

I had the misfortune of having the tour pac cable snap while opening the lid. Fortunately for me I was close to something that I did not break the hinges or the sides of the tour pac. I now, alway hold the cable when opening the lid. I think I will try a piece of para cord as a backup. I would hate to have to buy a new tour pack due to a broken lanyard.

Maybe the eglide goodies overpriced hinge is a better deal than having to buy a new lid or tourpac ? I bet any good cabinet supplier would have a hinge like that.

On my bike the retractable tether opened the lid more than the stock tether. I left the stock one in place after seeing this.

Overpriced or not, I ordered one of these last week. Hasn't come in yet. My SE Ultra had a cable that was pretty stout, but the 14 Limited has the tether and I don't trust it at all, plus it lets the lid open too far. When me and the wifey travel, her travel bag goes on the tour pack rack and you know how women pack, so the price in the long run is cheap.
