Hello all. First post. Can't belive I just found this site.
Anyway, I have the itch to replace my 97 flhr road king, with a 07 street glide.
Will I need to adjust to the fairing? I hardly ever use the windshield on the road king now. Will steering feel be too different with the fork mount fairing?
Also, I'm using kelley blue book and nada for the used value for my bike. Is there any other better source?
Steering is a little heavier, but you will get use to it in a short time. You will get some wind buffiting, but add the 20.00 fork baffel and it will be much nicer.
Yes you will definitely need to get used to the fairing. I have an 06 SG and it was my first fairing bike and took me a while to get used to it. The best thing about it is less fatigue and bugs. You will have to play around before you get the right height shield because the 4" stocker is basically useless on the highway. There are some cheap places to buy windshields to try like fastaire. Don't worry about the handling. If you are used to a 97 road king you will love the handling of the SG. Best thing to do is rent one for the day and do some heavy riding.
I put on the next size shield up, I think it's a 6", that works great.
I'm 5'11" so you might have to do the trial and error thing. Lot's of topics on replacement shields ( DO A SEARCH )and reasonably good prices, shop around and good luck with the nicest looking bike HD ever made. Also the fork baffle really helps alot for the $20.00, it's on there web site if you want to look at it. Very easy to install 3 screws. It takes longer to walk around your bike and turn the handle bars to put in the last screwthen it does to install it.
I just a put an 8" Clearview windshield on my ride yesterday (tinted, eurolip). I'm 6'2" and the wind still goes over my head, so I'm happy with it. You might consider getting some fairing lowers, like the $30 HD ones, or Freedom Wings; they'll decrease the wind coming up over the tank. I'll have to check out the fork baffle the other guys are talking about.
