Unfortunately, you will not get a definitive answer until the '08 announcements at the July dealer show. Anyone who tells you they "heard it directly from someone who lives next to the hairdresser of a Harley employee's son-in-law" is full of sh*t.
That said, Harley does need to step up and offer ABS for their consumer bikes. (They've got it as an option on their police models.)
Would love ABS. Just two days ago I had to stand on the brakes for a quick stop and locked up the rear wheel. Got a bit sideways. Lucky for me I had experience from my trials and dirt bikes days. Happened another time as well. I can remember when shopping for a bike, I had found a police model with ABS and thought to myself 'what's the big deal'. Wish I had that to think over again. Still love the bike I have and the decision to buy it. But ABS would be nice. Thought about trading for a '07, but will wait for '08. Not in a big hurry,I have an awsome ride.
A few months back, the monthly advisory questionnaire was about ABS and how much I would be willing to pay for them. I expect to see them offered for 08.
They do need to get their act together regarding modernizing that Police system they currently use. I understand it takes up half a saddlebag--not acceptable. Other makes, most notably BMW are on their third generation ABS and Harley hasn't been able to launch the first.

BMW's latest generation of ABS is THE state of the art. I had it on my 1200GS and would gladly pay the >$1k premium to get the same system on a Harley. I ain't holding my breath.

You really need to see and use the system, BEFORE you start shooting your mouth off about things that you do not have First-Hand knowledge/Experience of.....
Yes, the ABS heart is a little large, but no-where near 1/2 of the saddlebag.... about 1/4 or slightly less....
The system is made by Nissin.... It is a top notch, functional and easily maintained system....
And it is not Gen I.... Gen III for Nissin.....
I do know that BMW was pretty much FORCED to upgrade their system, as so many Motor Corps Officers were complaining about the problems with the system... So much that they went back to HD with ABS....

Kinda harsh don't you think?

Gotta' link to a definitive source? Everything I've read and heard about LEO agencies who are looking to switch from brand to brand indicates that politics and $$$ play a bigger role in the evaluation than the actual technical piece. Otherwise, BMW would own the LEO market. (My local LEO agency rides BMW and last spring I had an opportunityto meet with them as part of our Citizens Police Academy. Not a single one of them would choose a Harley over BMW - and they were very vocal in their support of BMW and opposition to Harley.)
If you have several hours to kill, check out this thread from the BMW forum which gives an "interesting" (to say the least) perspective about the LEO bidding process: http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthread...e/4#Post610402
