So I go to swap out my clutch cable today ('13 FLHX), I open the side of the trans and find this:
At last change I used Redline. It's probably been 5000 miles or so. Seems like it is Redline, or originally was. Perhaps it is just Redline that absorbed moisture? Any ideas? Anyone else see this before? I'm thinking I'll change the fluid after seeing this.
Mine looked the same even after two refills with Spectro. That Redline stuff (I ran prior) is really thick compared to the rest of the stuff out there. Since you have the trap door off, you might as well pull the plug and drain the case.
I suspect you've mastered the art of spraying water into you transmission vent line while washing the bike.
Don't know how you think that's water mixed in there but I guess anythings possible. The Redline stuff is really thick and hides in all the nooks and crannies even when you start to use a thinner gear lube. I stopped using it because of the awful smell it put out through the vent hose during the hot weather months.
I don't use high pressure water when washing, so I doubt it is that. I subscribe to the theory that it is mixed with the previous 20w-50 I had in there. Oh well, changing out now. I've got some Formula+ on the shelf at the moment, I'll be using that this time around...
