Default Sealed vs Shielded Bearings

2013 SG calls for sealed bearings, can you use shielded bearings or do they need to be sealed.

Either way you should pop the seals off the new ones and put some better grease in them.

Sealed means rubber or similar SEALS. Shielded has a metal shield, that will keep the bumble bees out. You will really want sealed, usually specified as a number plus 2RS. Meaning 2 rubber seals

A shielded bearing has metal shields to help hold the grease in but can still weep out and let moisture in. A sealed bearing has rubber coated shields to hold all grease in and keep all elements out. Use a 2 sided sealed bearing.

If your talkin wheel bearings, then take them back and trade em in for sealed, both sides, usually designated 2RS on the end of part number...eg 6205-2RS
