I have the HD, it works, and it has it's moments. I do know that I had to replace the cable due to the initial installer dealer screwed up and pinched it, and they also broke the part that goes into the iPod. I suffered through issue after issue for a year - the dealer kept blaming my iPod. Even though I have several iPods, that all "acted up". After a year of this BS, I came across an ebay sale on a new cable for one heck of a price, bought it, and then replaced my original cable all-by-my-lone and took the time to do it correctly.
Now, as I stated, it works 97.9% of the time. The HD unit, as stated by several, charges the iPod, allows the use of the finger controls, and shows the tunes etc in the HK display.
My biggest beef with the HD unit is, when you shut off the bike, while in a playlist at a certain point, and you start it up later, it starts from the 1st song, in the default master playlist - it does not pick up where you left off of what you were listening to when you shut off the bike.
I have read a lot of good things about the Iron Cross one.

This is the only issue I have with mine as well. Of course, I leave my iPod on shuffle, so it really makes little difference to me. I sometimes skip the first song (Tool's Aenima) and sometimes I don't. But for me, shuffle works best and I never have to mess with the controls.

The only time mine doesn't pick up where it left off is if the bike is shut down for a while, and the iPod battery dies. otherwise, picks up where it left off. Wife and I on 3,000 mile trip last year - have 2000 songs on iPod. Played the songs in alphabetical order and every morning, picked up where we left off.
For the money I would go with the HD Plus from Iron Cross. Just don't do as I did by using the crimp on connectors. Solder in the hot lead, it will work a lot better and last longer.
