When I purchased my 2013 FLHTC last year I had the dealer install HD LED brake and turn signals all around before I rode it home. I also had them do the wiring needed to have rear turn signals act as brake lights when brakes applied. I believe that it made me much more visible. I am currently installing the HD Daymaker reflector headlight and auxiliary lights as of this post. I spent a lot of time reading others views on all the lights out there, I chose the HD reflectors over everything else, Phase 7 would be my second choice...so if the funds are your deciding factor; the Phase 7 are the best bang for the buck.
I'm like medicmike. I went with LED turn signals and brake lights first and currently have stock headlight and spots for my RK. I'm set on getting the HD Daymaker reflectors in the next couple weeks or so.
I suggest doing the spots and main at the same time if you can swing it. The color of the spots might look funny next to the main light. Also a buddy has the Phase 7 on his SG and they do stick out a bit. He had to change out his trim ring, so thats a consideration.
If you don't already, I also suggest having the spots stay on when you switch to high beams as jara97 said. It's great for those tight turns at night at you said.
I went with the black Daymaker and love it. The difference is really amazing at night. It was easy to install and Eastern Performance has them on sale.
