Default Power Commander 5 slow starting.

Last summer swapped out my fuelPak and went with a power commander 5. It's very slow to start. Sometimes you can hit the run button, then quickly hit the start button (recommendation via other forums) and she'll start right up. But most of the time it takes a while even if I try this procedure. Remove the PCV and it'll start right up every time. I had Power Commander look at my map and it checked out ok. Bike has new starter and battery has been tested three times now. Charging system is good. and battery is on trickle charger when sitting for any length of time. Also getting spark through the whole starting process. It just seems like the injectors are not coming on consistently like they normally do without the PCV. I've heard a lot of threads on this same issue, just trying to see if there is something I'm missing. Not a big fan of throwing money away and have little patience when reliability becomes questionable.

I just put a Power Commander V on my new to me 2008 EG. I too have noticed it is slower to start up now. It use to fire as soon as I hit the start button. Now it must turnover a few times before it fires.

PS - the previouse owner had the Stage 1 HD ECU flash. I felt it was too lean based on looking the the plugs so I added the PC-V

Any others notice this issue? Is it a concern?

I was having the same problem with my Street Glide and PCV. 103 with Compression releases.
Sometimes would start right up after turning to run and hitting the start, but most of the time it would still take 5-10 sec to start. I always kept my battery on a tender and didnt think to replace. Untill one day the battery went dead and wouldnt keep a charge.

Replaced the battery and now it kicks over with out a problem. For a whole year it acted like you described and didnt think to replace the battery because the tender showed green and would eventually start.
I think the ECU needs to see a certain RPM for the bike to start and the battery was not able to crank to get the RPM up to fire.

I encountered the same issue with the PCV on my '06. There's something unnerving with turning over 3-4 times before it fires....

I have couple of suggestions. Don't know if it will work or not. Make sure you have the latest firmware update. There are instructions on dynajet web site. Unless you are using the mounted monitor turn off the harley diagnostics or something like that under the Powercommander tools menu under configure. I know that caused me some problems with cruise and 6th gear light. Turning off every thing not needed like autotune tables if not using autotune module. You do have the O2's unhooked. That has happened more times than you may think, not unhooking them. Also make sure your throttle position is showing 0 when warmed up and the laptop hooked to it. With the harley stuff turned off you won't be able to see the gauges other than rpm and throttle position if I remember right. It has been couple years since I ran one. I have put several on and always turn off this and haven't had any issues. If you are adding any fuel in the 0 and 2 throttle position by 500-750-1000 rpms you may take some away. With a stock or stage one just leave zero's in these 6 positions. If you have cams you should have negative numbers here from -10 to -20 depending on the cams. I to recommend just hitting the switch and start immediately. I even do that with PV and SEPST and TTS tuners and stock and it works for me. If really cold I will let it time out first. Good luck.

Thanks - seems to be a little better after turning diagnostics off. Forgot to check the firmware version while I had it connected, but it is a brand new unit so surely it has the latest? I am adding some fuel at the 2 position at 1000rpm. I'll try taking some away next. O2s are unhooked

Lots of people have discussed this in the past. It's normal.
If you watch the power commander when you go to start up, it actually cycles on to off to on again while the engine is turning over. Something to do with how it gets power.

Do a search and you find more accurate information on why it does it.

I bought my '13 103 with 1800 miles on it and it has always turned over a few times before starting. I never have seen this as an issue. Maybe 5 times before it fires. Battery tender and ride it daily. If it is turning over for 30 seconds that would be different but a few rotations is not a big deal.

I have the PCV on my 2010 Street Glide also with a pre loaded Fuel Moto map and I have not had any of the above issues ie turn over many times before starting, 6th gear light etc. I've not ever accessed my PCV since I received it from Fuel Moto in 2010, so I don't know what on or off. I just know it runs good. Maybe a call to Fuel Moto would shed some light? If some folks have these issues and some don't, it sounds logically to be just a setting?
