Default Dyna or Tour?

I have a 2012 custom 1200 CP that has to many mods to list. I love this bike for around town but with 2 up or over 70mph not so much. I am going to replace it but would like feed back from owners. I am 5'10 190lb with a 32 inseam and all body parts work. I live in Az. and ride every day to work 16 miles round trip through town. Every weekend I do 100 to 300 mile ride wife comes with me once a month. I work a lot so I do not foresee the cross-country ride for 10 years. The bikes that I am conserving are a Switchback-Road King or a Electra Glide classic. I am Not new to riding but the Custom is the 1st H-D I have had with a electric start. I welcome your comments

Well you asked in the Touring forum so of course you know what we are going to say. To me the Touring frame is far and away superior to the Dyna.

I understand your delema, i ride to work every day also, and had a dyna Fat Bob that i had added some nice mods too. it was fun to ride to work, and for around town, but i took a few 200 to 300 mile single day trips on it, and it was not much fun for that... i also have a BMW R1200 gs, and ended up riding it most of the longer trips. I recently traded in the Fat Bob on a FLHTK and love it.. its not much fun around town for short trips, but back and forth to work occasionaly & on the longer trips its way more enjoyable.. if i rode it to work more i would probably make the tour pack removable, and still might... but a road king, Street Glide, or a Ultra would be a good choice... the tour pack is nice on the longer trips, makes it more comfortable for a passenger, so might be worth considering a limited, and make the tour pack removable... the limited does include a lot of the stuff that you might end up adding to a RK, SG, or a Ultra... Haven't ridden a switchback, so i cant speak to that, but you cant beat a bagger for passenger comfort.

My first day with a Bagger I rode 500 miles, my 2nd was 800 days.

the big seat and air suspension allows for long days in the saddle without discomfort.
day after day.

And you can ride the Apache trail on one...radio blaring past all the KTM's and KLR's

I do not like the switchback. If ya want hard bags and big screen the roadking is the real thing. A fatbob is the dyna I'd go for for a lighter more fun ride but ya really don't lose much sportyness with a roadking.

You are going to end up just like everybody else.

When you get to the dealership, you will realize why the Street Glide is their best selling bike.

Everybody loves that lowered, stripped down custom look. Your feet easily reach the floor. The fairing gives a great look and plenty of protection. A built in stereo and full gauge package is the cherry on top.

The just released Rushmore package makes everything even better. More power, better ride, smoother handling, calmer air, better sound, can use GPS or bluetooth, great looking new wheels, brakes and fenders. Out comes the checkbook.

Perfect for 300 mile trips with lady on the back. If you need more storage you can always add a removable tourpak or backrest with rack.

You will end up buying a seat that is more comfy for the missus and a couple inches taller windshield for the open road, but that bike is so versatile it will give you pleasurable riding for years and years.

Enjoy your new Street Glide...let her pick out the color : >)

I dont like the switchback either, and im sure it will get booted from Harley's lineup sooner or later because they arent very popular. Its a wanabe bagger on a dyna frame.

You will never regret buying a Road King, everyone that has one loves theirs.

Had a 2010 Fat Bob that I put 33,000 miles on in 3 years and 1,080 in one day with no complaints. I have a 2014 Street Glide now and its a much better ride than my old Fat Bob. Test ride your options and pick what suits you.

I have both, a Super Glide and a Street Glide. I have had a ton of good times riding and modding the Super Glide. Did a lot of 200 to 300 rides, some two up. But, the older I got, the more beat up I felt after long rides. Got the Street Glide last year and haven't been back on the Super Glide since. To me, the Street Glide is just as much fun around town and on the road, no comparison. Fair amount of price difference between the two so I guess budget may be a factor in the decision.
