Just did this yesterday, I like it a lot although it's pricy little venture. Easy to do and makes a huge difference just running around. Not that it was bad anyway with it on. It's a new look and lighter. I got the kit and got a street glide seat from a buddy. Also bought a detach backrest in case the wife wants to go for a quick ride.

Good to know, that was my next question. Does the conversion kit allow for a detachable sissy bar aka backrest. I think we are going for this !

I was looking at the detach kit for my new '15 in the catalog. I like the extra brake lights mounted on the bags. Where do the antennas go when the TP is off? How difficult is the install? I like the flexibility of taking it off for solo riding.

Look up the '14+ kit on Harley's website. Pretty sure the pic will answer your question.

I found the install to be easy enough. That being said, I already own all the tools and am a hands on kinda person. The kit comes with an antenna relocation bracket for the radio. It mounts low between the rear fender and left saddle bag. The cb antenna relocation setup is an additional cost and doesn't come with the kit.
The kit in I'm my opinion is a lot of money, however it's like owning 2 bikes when you're done.

Default Detachable tour packm issues - good and bad

I have 14 Ultra and the dealer installed the detachable kit.
My previous ride was a Road King and I thought I would remove the back every time the wife wasn't along. Well I found that the extra storage is so nice I had not removed it for 36,000 miles, until now.
The wiring harness was bundled up behind the seat and under the pack and rubbed the paint off the fender! I'm thinking the wires should have been somewhere else or wrapped in something to protect the paint. Taking it back to the dealer today to see what can be done.
The pack come off fairly easily, be sure to cover the bags, and there's plenty of room under the seat for the wiring. I do like the looks of the bike with the pack off and it handles better too.

Does anyone know of a 'storage rack' or some type of system that when you remove your tour pak with this, you can store it somewhere safe?

They make a wall storage bracket that you can clip in and hang the pack on your garage wall. It's basically a mount with detach hardware lugs built on it, you hang the pack just like you clip it on the bike

Thanks for the tip about the wall rack. Wish I had been more careful Now have a few little scratches on the bottom from it sitting around. This is a great mod, but expensive. Bike feels awesome without the TP. For antenna, I mounted both the CB and radio antenna under the fairing. I didn't like the look of the relocated antenna., and it looks really nice without any. I also used Deutsch connectors under the seat so all wires plug under the saddle and come off with the TP instead of being coiled up. Looks much cleaner.

Oh - something else - to all who have this mod, check the bolts holding the rotating locks in place. Loctite them with blue! I lost one bolt before I knew it, and the other one was about to fall out when I checked it. Since then I've talked to a number of others and all had at least one bolt coming out. This is the little bolt in the center of the black latch that latches on the rear connection points. FYI...
