2007 RK Custom. I bought it second hand (third, actually) so I'm still learning what it has on it. Stock pipes with Python slip ons. The previous owner did a Stage 1 upgrade with the air filter. And the SE race tuner. Since then, I've had the bike in the dealer a couple times for normal maintenance. 20k maintenance and then just got it out of storage with a spring tune up. I don't think they did any programming of the tuner, but I don't know for sure. If they did, I assume they did a stock mapping.
I notice that I do get deceleration popping in the exhaust. That's from a lean mixture, right? I've had this popping for the 2 years I've owned the bike. The dealer looked at it, rode it, said everything was normal. But is it? Do lots of bikes have decel popping in the exhaust? Should I program the tuner myself (or go to an indy who can do it for me)? Or should I leave well enough alone? Other than the decel pop, the bike rides just fine.
im running heads and an open pipe(samson cholos). mine pops and barks on deceleration. ive had it tuned on a dyno with a power commander. i dont mind it.
Sometimes it's as simple as not rolling all the way off the throttle. Used to pull back slightly on the throttle coming down the mountain. She'd pop all the way to the bottom.
Good advice from all. Thanks. Funny thing is, when I got her out of storage (damn, I wish I had a garage so I wouldn't have to do that) the dealer said there was a crack in my Y pipe. I had it replaced. Now that I think about it, I don't remember if, on the ride home from the dealer this week, it was popping or not. Probably because I was too busy reting to stay warm! Now I wonder if that was it all along... I'll pay attention next time out, as maybe I had a leak all along.
