Oh, with the HD brackets above, you are compressing the front forks when you tie down to your mounting points.
Yes and yes.

Not pulling down on the axle, pulling the forks apart against the axle nuts, I guess I should have been more specific.

And you should pull into the suspension some, not friggin bottomed out.

And you're correct, we all have opinions.

I use soft ties and ratchet straps tied at the lowest bend in the bars. No problems ever with either the bar bushings or axles in many hundreds of thousands of miles and nearly every brand of bike.
Sometimes one can over-think a solution when the answer is so very simple.
Oh well, to each his own.

Hey Safety, no issues with the brackets clearing the tank I assume when the wheel is fully turned? I want to get these also mainly cuz the straps come too close to the turn signals, crash bar, etc... I think they look pretty slick also. Thanks

Like you...didn't know because I was on sport bikes for so long. After reading so many opinions about what's best......I found whats best for me and what works for me. 1--I have mini apes and refuse to tie down using the bars. I use a soft tie where the down tube and highway bar connects---the way I wrap the soft tie around it, all of the pressure is on the down tube. I also use a soft tie on each rear peg.

I noticed you said truck..........I have a wheel chock in my trailer and this is what makes the tie down easy.

BTW---my mini apes did loosen because I was using the bars at first---had the ratchett too tight. So, I'm taking no more chances.....like others have said...they've never had a problem. I didn't have a problem on my softail Deluxe using the bars either---guess it all depends.

Where do you get the soft straps? Been to trailer sales, hitch sales stores,Walmart, Motorcyle shoos etc.,can't find them, and nobody seems to understand what I'm asking ?
