Exactly what I do. I don't think you should use the bars or forks for heavy bikes like these.

Are those tie down mounts something that could be put on relatively easy and fast? My bike doesn't get trailered unless broken and I would prefer not to ride around with them on all the time. They do look like a nice thing to have in a saddle bag for emergency tow

I don't care for the ones that mount where the spots should go, so i use this on my SG.
