Default Tie down

Just bought a '14 Street Glide Special. Looking for some help in being able to tie down the bike for transport. Also where would be the best point on the front bars to attach a strap to be able to winch the bike into the back of a truck. I had no problem doing this with my Suzuki but I'm stuck with the new bike

I like my Powertye kit. http://www.chrome-addiction.com/g-po...kits-44403.php
Also, if you don't have one it's a good idea to get a wheel chock to keep 'er from tipping on you. I use one of these HF specials when hauling in the pickup. Low budget and works great. I move it from trailer to truck as needed. http://www.harborfreight.com/motorcy...l#.UzQm5F6Br_w
I like the idea of the HD tie down kit, but it looks like I need the other part #93500011 for my '14 Street Glide.

Two soft straps with the "fur" between the fork tubes and the front fender. Regular tie downs attached to them and to the trailer floor. Yes on a good wheel chock and have your front floor mounting points slightly in front of the chock so the straps are pulling the front wheel into the chock tight.

On the rear, I use two tie downs around the rear wheel pulling outward so the bike doesn't move side to side.

This.

I have a set on my Limited, and put a set on the SGS.

Personally, I would NOT tie to bars or the fork/fender connection, bars are mounted in bushings, and pulling on the bottom of the forks you are pulling on the axle....

The 14s are tricky to get to the triple trees, ABS wires and brake lines are fastened down where you need to wrap a softie, and I'm afraid to pinch those.

My 2 cents.

Just went through the same process on mine. We trailer the bikes behind our camper to then explore the area we are camping in. Get to enjoy both camping (motorhome) and our bikes. Make the wife very happy.

Decided against using the handlebars due to the faring and the turn signals. No real way to route the straps without hitting things. Decided to go with the tie downs fro HD. The put the attachment point below the turn signal so the straps have a clear shot down to the hooks on the floor. I also tie the back down to stop side to side motion. I plan on using the saddle bag supports, since there is not a lot of tension on that set of straps. Just enough to stop the bike from sliding side to side.

Called my local dealer this morning. Out of stock til next week, but I'll be long gone to Daytona by then. Looks like I suck it up and buy at Rossmeyer's while I'm there and pay full shot ($60), as opposed to getting it online for $47 if I want to use it on the return trip.
But I've got to tack another $7 for the lowest cost shipping, so it's not that big a deal to buy them on my trip.

Pulling on the axle huh....The wheel is in a chock, your pulling the wheel tight into the chock and your not compressing the front end. But we all have opinions.....

Oh, with the HD brackets above, you are compressing the front forks when you tie down to your mounting points.
