Default American Elite Front Tread Pattern???

Has anyone noticed the front tread pattern on American Elite tires seems counter intuitive? The groove pattern looks like it will take water from the side walls and channel it to the center of the tire. Yes they are mounted with the correct rotation direction. The rear pattern is the opposite.

That's how the tread on the Harley 407 front and rear use to be until they recalled the front and replaced it with 408 which is the same tread just reversed. I don't remember what the reason for the switch was but my 2010 was part of the recall back in the day.

I just put the tire on of my preference.
I leave it up to the tire companies to do the research on tires.
They know more than I do.

Regardless of the tread pattern I can attest to their performance in the rain. Last fall I replaced both front and rear with American Elites just prior to riding to the Lone Star Rally in Galveston. I rode through torrential down pours in Houston on my way from Tulsa. They worked great. The bike felt very stable and handled very well in the conditions.

Yeah ok...Glad I wasn't that lazy when my kids pediatrician prescribed a med my daughter was allergic to years ago. After all, he is the expert and had her allergies noted in his files...

I didn't say I didn't trust the tire, just found it odd and wanted to know others thoughts on the matter...

back in 09 when the 407 first came out u could walk into any dealer and ask why their front tires had the tread pattern running both ways,it was a fight between dunlop and harley.

My little brother just had this question about a pair of Avons he bought. It's apparently getting to be more common for the front and rear patterns to be reversed (more so in the sport bike arena).

I don't understand it completely, but they were saying it improved braking stability in corners. Apparently, as long as they're grooved, the pattern direction isn't all that important for water displacement.
