Default Dynabeads Not Working??

Just had an American Elite mounted on front. Used 1oz of Dynabeads and tire was not balanced. Added another ounce (2oz is recommended) and tire still not balanced. Going back with the hated weights I guess unless anyone has any other ideas...Bike is a 2012 Limited with stock wheels.

If it will not balance with the beads you got a problem. ?Check the tire for bulges. You could try more beads if the tire looks good.

Did you mout the tire yourself? If so, Make sure the yellow or red dot is lined up with the valve stem, and if it's a directional tire, that it is running the correct way. As stated above make sure it is set with no bulges.

When I mount tires, I put the tire, not inflated, not seated, on the rim and then the wheel on a static balancer. I move the tire around the wheel until I find the point of least out of balance - it can be way different in different positions (and can take a fair amount of time and patience). If the tire is just thrown on the wheel, you might be unlucky and have the worst combination position, and that could easily be over 2 ounces with wheels that heavy. If you put weights on, you'll have to pull the wheel again; would be easier to add another half ounce, and then another; if there's still no improvement then, guess I'd pull it and put weights on, just to see if that would change anything - and verify how far out of balance it is.

After I seat new tires, I put the wheel back on the static balancer and lightly apply stick on weights just to get a ball park figure of how many beads it needs; no reason to put a couple ounces in if less than an ounce balances it; I'll go about a half ounce over the static balance just to make sure it's has enough; the excess will spread out anyway.

How about letting us know how this turns out, I'm curious.

I use Ride-On in all my bike tires and it's always smooth as silk. Balances and provides protection if you catch a nail or something. It's about $15 per 8oz bottle and I save $10 when I don't have my indy balance a tire so it's only an extra $5. I highly recommend it.

I thought the same when I got my 21" installed till I found the tire had a indent in it. Thought the same with the new tire until I realized the tire needs more pressure than I was used to running.

I second the use of Ride On. Can't beat it.

I know this isn't a Ride-On thread, but I do like using it not only for balancing but the added benefit of puncture protection.

How do you know it is not balanced? It will not show as balanced on a static balancer with beads in it. It has to reach a certain speed for the beads to balance the tire. It is based on centrifugal force.

A tire with beads will never show as balanced on a balancer.

That's what I was wondering.
