I lost my high frequency hearing and have had to make peace with my tinnitus. course I say , "huh" a lot when folks are talking and forget eating at a restaurant and listening to a conversation. One of the enjoyments of riding now is that it drowns out the ringing and roaring I hear 24/7. Ear plugs are the way to go if you like hearing a bell ring or a whistle blow and children asking questions.
I wear good fitting ear buds to listen to my music when I'm on the road. Cuts the wind noise and the roar of the pipes down a bit.

The ringing in your ears is the preliminary stages of tinnitus. This is a form of hearing loss and will in time become permanent. You will always hear the sound of a seashell once the problem becomes permanent. Many people experience it. I use the soft foam ear plugs and can hear my stereo more clearly with the plugs in than without. I buy them at the local pharmacy, they aren't expensive but make a significant difference. Just try it and you will see what I am talking about. Or better yet continue to go without and get to more annoying stages of tinnitus.

My left ear rings 24/7 tried few different earplugs buy IMO the silicone soft gel plugs work better you can hear the music but can't carry conversation on the CB. Talk to my Dr. she said there is no cure for it. Helmets don't help much seems like get noisier with face shield down.

I've been wearing custom fitted ear plugs for 8 years. Got tired of feeling like my head was in a vice during a road trip. I can hear the radio and traffic just fine. I have tinnitus from all the years riding and the constant ringing in my ears is not fun. Take it from us old farts, once your hearing is gone there is no bringing it back.

I bet you didn't notice it w/o a windshield b/c your ears are getting worse. Bet you'd notice it if you went back to the old bike. Wear the ear plugs. You can still hear everything you wanna hear just fine. I wear the Earplanes b/c they seem to be pretty much have a straight hollow hole going through them. I'm sure there are better ones, some of which are custom and skin colored.
